The county of Lincolnshire is one that is popular with tourists for a variety of reasons, one of the major ones being the ample and quite stunning coastline and beaches. This is a county that has both coastal and inland attractions of a wide variety, and offers a great deal to the visitor.
There are some excellent hotels dotted across the county in a variety of wonderful towns, and some excellent guest houses, holiday parks and self catering accommodation, making this eastern county a wise choice for anyone looking for a holiday in a very attractive part of England.
The county town of Lincoln is a cathedral city that has much to offer the visitor, from the majestic and spectacular cathedral itself, a magnificent Gothic creation that is quite unlike any other and which stands proud of the plains surrounding the city no matter which direction you approach from, and this 1000 year old edifice will not fail to impress. Second on the list should be Lincoln Castle, an 11th century construction on the orders of William the Conqueror, and the home of one of four remaining copies of the Magna Carta.
Lincoln itself is a wonderful city, one that has its roots firmly in the past but is equally forward thinking, and there is much to see and do here from the cobbled streets and medieval architecture that typifies the old town to a selection of excellent shops, not to mention a vibrant night life scene that offers a variety of clubs, bars and places to eat.
Back to the coast and there is nowhere in the country that offers such a range of variety and excitement as Lincolnshire; the stretch from Mablethorpe to Skegness is one of the most active and enjoyable in the country and is aptly known as The Fun Coast, and offers much in the way of glorious sands and entertainment at its many wonderful resorts. A variety of theme parks offer rollercoaster rides and amazing themed rides, while museums concentrate, naturally, on the areas age old links with fishing and the sea.
If looking to eat out in any of the coastal towns choose one where local catches are landed regularly, as the best of the seafood in the UK comes from the east coast fleets, but if fish is not your thing then you are able to draw on another local speciality – the famous Lincoln Sausage – and also local cheeses that have been made in the region for hundreds of years.
Lincolnshire is a county of many different angles, one in which you can come across a quaint and untouched village off the beaten track, complete with beautiful traditional country pub, or visit a full on seaside town such as Skegness and take in the sights and sounds of the funfair, and equally you might stumble across stunning architecture that is unlike anything else, and all are packaged into one very beautiful and accessible county. Lincolnshire makes a lot of sense, whatever the sort of holiday you are looking for.
