Like all the best places, Shropshire is easy to reach from almost anywhere you will have heard of, but far enough away that it has stayed unspoilt and comparatively unchanged. Within the timeless landscapes of the county there are charming market towns such as Ellesmere, Market Drayton, Oswestry, Bishops Castle, Ludlow, Much Wenlock and Bridgnorth , with enticing streets and alleyways where you will find antique and craft shops, inns and teashops along with traditional family grocers, butchers and bakers. Enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities, Shropshire is the perfect backdrop for walking, cycling, horse riding, hang gliding, fishing, golf and even hot air ballooning. The spectacular views are a feature of walks along the dramatic Long Mynd ridge and Offa’s Dyke.

You certainly won’t be stuck for things to do in Shropshire, within this county’s extraordinarily beautiful landscape you’ll find more award-winning attractions and outdoor pursuits than you’d ever imagine possible. Visiting a Vineyard is not something you would normally associate with a UK holiday but Wroxeter Roman Vineyard was planted in 1991 and has achieved international recognition and ranks in the top number of vineyards in the UK. It nestles in the foothills of the Wrekin on a sandy plateau of the Roman City of Viroconium, enjoying a special micro-climate. The vineyard has a large shop selling these locally grown wines which include white, red, rose and sparkling, and you can try before you buy! Group tours can be organised to customer’s requirements, learn the history of the location, about vineyards and wine growing, of the winery and the equipment used.

The Severn Valley Railway operates steam-hauled passenger trains between Bridgnorth, Bewdley and Kidderminster, a journey of about 16 miles. The Railway in Bridgnorth hosts a series of special events throughout the year including the ever-popular 1940s Weekends and a new 3-day event celebrating life in the 1960s. The children are well catered for with ‘Seaside Special’ in August and a brand new Halloween event in October called ‘Take the Ghost Train’. Railway ‘buffs’ are also well looked after with steam and diesel gala weekends and a special weekend called appropriately ‘Peep Behind the Scenes’ which does just that!

The Ironbridge Gorge Museums, ten award winning museums which include Blist Hill Victorian Town, where you can meet the Victorians and learn about their life and work, Enginuity where you can exercise your imagination, play games, build bridges, generate electricity and discover how everyday objects are designed – great for all age groups!

Take a look at the priceless treasures at Coalport China Museum. Buy a Passport Ticket and you can visit these and any of the other museums as many times as you like and they are valid for 1 year.
