A former railway line that is now a lovely traffic free path and is open to pedestrians, cycles, horses, and dogs, covering a 10.5 mile route winds all the way up from Swalwell to Consett. Beamish Open Air Museum can be reached within half an hour and is a wonderful day out for all the family. A world famous open air museum whose reconstructed streets and houses tell the story of the people of North East England and gives a great insight into the everday lives of ordinary people. If you pine for the shops, Gateshead and Newcastle are just a short drive away and the famous Metro Centre not only has shops, restaurants and cafes, but has various family attractions to offer as well.
