This is an area replete with history and legend, and home to two of our most popular writers – the great poet Wordsworth and the children’s legend Beatrix Potter, both of whom are commemorated in superb museums in the region – but it is the quaint and unspoilt villages and towns, each offering traditional pubs and wonderful shops, that draw the visitor back again and again.
