For an excellent choice of watersports, that include opportunities for tuition and training Allerthorpe Park Watersports offers sailing, kayaking, windsurfing and canoeing. You can bring your own equipment or it’s all readily available to hire. The centre also has 3 acres of dedicated fishing lakes.
Golfers can enjoy a wide choice of courses including, Easingwold, Kirkbymoorside, Aldwark Manor and Sandburn Hall. All of them differ in their challenges welcome families and are reasonably priced with professional tuition available at Sandburn Hall.
Visiting the city of York is a must, and with park and ride facilities easily found, it’s the best way to get right into the city centre without the hassle of finding where to park. The many attractions in York include the historic Minster, Jorvik and the British Rail Museum as well as the joy of exploring the quaint and narrow streets of the Shambles.
Horse racing enthusiasts have a great choice of racecourses in the area and as well as York, there are courses at Thirsk, Beverley, Doncaster, Pontefract, Leeds and Harrogate, so you’re bound to get a race meeting somewhere!
Outdoors in the open countryside, there are plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling to suit all abilities, with miles of National Cycle Route as well as moorland tracks and trails.
