Having the advantage of being within easy reach of London and the channel ports makes West Sussex extremely popular and with a host of attractions and outdoor activities is the perfect place to explore and enjoy a holiday at any time of the year.
West Sussex has a long and interesting history and there are hundreds of historic sites stretching back over thousands of years. Castles in Sussex are mainly from Norman times and Arundel Castle having been heavily restored in the 19th century is an excellent example of an almost perfect castle. However many are just ruins such as Bamber Castle or Knepp Castle, little more than a pile of stones. Amberley Castle is now a posh hotel, having once been the summer retreat of the Bishop of Chichester. Sussex has plenty of stately homes and gardens open to the public including Fishbourne Roman Palace, the oldest of the lot, through to Parham House, Petworth House and Goodwood House.
Bognor Regis is one of the UK’s most famous seaside resort still providing holidaymakers with seaside fun after 200 years and claiming to have more hours of sunshine than almost anywhere else on the south coast is deservedly famous for its traditional seaside amusements and family entertainment. And, as well as gorgeous Blue Flag beaches, there’s a wide variety of sports and leisure facilities on offer too.
If you fancy seeing West Sussex from a different angle, Petworth Hot Air Ballooning is run by the British School of Ballooning. As well as (or instead of, if you’re of a nervous disposition) you can enjoy the spectacle of multiple balloons taking off at once. Other great days out include Harbour Park, a unique Amusement Park, on the east bank of the River Arun in the traditional maritime town of Littlehampton. With wide grass picnic areas, sandy beaches, working harbour and breath-taking surroundings it is an ideal place for a lovely family day
Spending your well earned break in West Sussex has the added advantage of being within easy reach of London, both for transport links and a day out in the capital city, and the ports of the south coast for daytrips to France. So will it be a luxury lodge, a fun filled family holiday park or a cosy country cottage? – The choice is yours!
